This new and improved newsletter is coming to you via Substack. I was using another service that I had to pay for but it was annoying and confusing and the newsletter always ended up in everyone’s spam/promotions folder. Been digging other people’s substacks so here I am with a snazzy new layout and way more customization.
I have comments opened up down below so if you have any feedback, feel free to share. And if you’ve got any questions you’d like me to answer in a future newsletter, fire away. Social Media™ feels like it’s devolving into uselessness and it’s impossible to keep up with DMs and emails so I’m hoping this newsletter can become THE way to communicate with me and keep you folks informed as to what I’m up to.
Also, my sincerest apologies if you messaged me recently (in the last, I dunno, four years or so) and I failed to respond. It was never my intention to become a reclusive artist who’s difficult to reach, but then I had kids. Maintaining a comics career and being a dad/husband who’s present/available leaves little time for an introvert who was never great at maintaining communication to begin with. I haven’t checked Instagram in years and I frequently ignore Twitter. I could be much better at e-mailing people back but my mind is in a fog most days and I have to save what focus I have on the art. Speaking of…
Commissions!
That’s right, folks. I have finally decided to set my stylus down and actually touch pen to paper. Never thought I’d see the day where I could sling ink and not miss the safety net of ctrl+z but here we are, baby! Maybe it’s the proliferation of AI art, or maybe I’m finally getting tired of staring at a computer screen all day. Either way, I’ve decided to share the joy of analog art with you.
On December 18th at 2PM CT, I’ll have 10 spots available on my store site HERE.
I’ll be charging $700 for a 9x12 of a single character. Pencil, ink, and wash. Here are two examples:
After buying a commission, I'll shoot you an e-mail to find out what character (and specific costume) you'd like. If you really want to help me out, give me your top three characters and I can pick the one that I think I’ll be able to best deliver on.
Every piece will have a little bit of background, some more than others. I’ll happily take suggestions but I might ignore those if I think of something that works better for the composition.
And just so you know, my shop accepts credit cards and Apple Pay but NO PayPal. Shipping is a flat $20 for anyone in the U.S. and a flat $50 for everyone else.
Don’t worry if you miss out on this round; I’ll be offering more commissions and original art later in the year.
That’s it for now, but stay tuned - I’ll have an update after the holidays that goes over what I’ve been up to since Human Target.
Hey Greg, I always loved your process threads on Twitter, a peek behind the curtain on what inspires you is such a treat. I never would have guessed 101 Dalmatians would be an inspiration to you, but it made total sense. I hope you'll post more of these inspiration/process threads here for your future projects. Happy Holidays!
I was very pleased to see this newsletter from you, I'm glad you're back at it.
Is Batman Barbarian still happening? I was very excited when I heard the announcement so I made sure to preorder the 1st issue, but the book never came out. I hope it's just a delay and not a cancellation.
